What better time to get a jump start on your spring cleaning than when it is still chilly outside?

When it comes time for me to spring clean, I find the following to be most helpful.

- Make a list of each area in your home that needs organizing, purging and cleaning up.
- Start researching potential products that may help you get organized.
- Dedicate a full day to do this and make sure to STICK TO YOUR plan.

I find that there are 3 main areas to consider when taking on spring cleaning;
 your closet, kitchen and bathroom

CLOSET:

I think the best help is to make a rule for yourself - anything that you haven’t worn in the last 3 years give away. Let’s face it- if in 3 years you haven’t worn it there is no reason to keep it. You probably won’t wear it for the next three years either. If it is hard to part with things, try it on one more time and honestly assess whether or not you would wear it again, or if it would be better to get something new, fresh and updated. Remember, good can come out of your clean up. It is wonderful to donate these things to a local charity, clothing drive or church group.  Another great helper in organizing and cleaning out your closet is once you have eliminated the clothes you do not wear, I recommend organizing your closet by color and season. By doing this you will be able to see what you have quickly.

Streamline the look of your closet by investing in some new hangers. (Check out my
Perfect Hanger 25 Piece Set Shirt & Pant/Skirt Set. And, it is a great help to get your shoes off the floor. No more bending down and searching through a sea of messy shoes. (That’s why my I created my 4 Sided Spinning Shoe, Sweater and Pant Organizer).  It will help you maximize the vertical space in your closet and takes up only about 14" wide of space. Plus it spins! You’ll be amazed at how clear floor space can make your closet feel so clean and organized. It can also create storage space you never knew existed.

BATHROOM:

When challenged with the bathroom clean up - I start by going through old medicines and products and checking expiration dates. Make a list of the things that have expired that you need to replace, and then throw away all expired products and replace with new. Much like medicines, cosmetics can go bad too. Get rid of old and unused makeup.  Lastly, do you have a stash of hair products that you’ve tried but not liked? Now is the time to get rid of them as well. Make room for your tried and true products and gain back room by getting rid of the never used. Do you have makeup strewn about your counters? Consider investing in a make-up organizer. (
The Deluxe Cosmetic Organizer has room for it all). Less chaos in the morning in my bathroom makes me less chaotic all day long….

KITCHEN:

The same rule applies to the kitchen. Get rid of foods that may have expired. Donate canned goods that you’ve found aren’t popular in your household but are still ok. Old pots and pans that you’re saving "just in case"… donate, donate, donate!  I like to take a look at what I have every year to six months. I’ve found that it is always easier to purge my home of unused goods on a regular basis than to wait until it is completely overwhelming.

Spring Cleaning Checklist:

Write a Get Organized TO DO list– make a plan, and stick with it.

Organize clothes by season and color. Donate any not worn in last 2 years.

Toss old cosmetics and expired medicines.

Clean up and organize places you don’t normally clean: basements,  closets,   garages...

Research new

organizational tools.

ENJOY SPRING!
